TOPIC: Psychodrama & OT: An Encounter
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will learn about the history of psychodrama, as well as the basic terms and
concepts.
2. Participants will practice and apply 2-3 psychodramtic techniques as it applies to group-based
occupational therapy treatment/intervention within the session.
3. Participants will be able to identify and describe 2 ways in which they can apply psychodramatic techniques safely into their occupational therapy practice.
Bio/Focus/Speakers:
Maggie Flynn Greelish, OTD, is a licensed occupational therapist and the Director of Inpatient Group Therapy for McLean SouthEast. She completed her doctoral degree at Massachusetts General
Hospital Institute of Health Professions (MGH-IHP) and her B.S. in Neuroscience at Stonehill College.
Maggie’s doctoral thesis involved evaluating the significance and effectiveness of home-based initial evaluations for clients prior to the onset of receiving outpatient therapy services.
Maggie’s career began in psychiatric care at Pembroke Hospital, supporting the staff in developing protocols for when to consult occupational therapy, as well as training & educating staff on sensory-
based interventions and strategies. She has been published in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence and has presented at the American Occupational Therapy Association national conference.
She currently serves as a term-lecturer and clinical instructor for MGH-IHP, collaborating on fulfilling a Mass General Brigham grant that seeks to increase student’s training and workforce development in the area of behavioral health.
Focus- Psychodrama is evidence-based in relation to reintegrating trauma and utilized in trauma informed care. In this presentation, the connection and value of occupational therapy practitioners
incorporating and understanding Psychodrama in a mental health setting will be explored. As well as the way in which mental health patients can benefit from an integrative and multi-modal approach will be examined.
